Saskatchewan Big Game Draw - Now Open!

The Saskatchewan Big Game Draw is now open for the 2014/2015 hunting season.   This time last year the system was marred with system issues and confusion on how to enter into the draw.  After which if you were drawn, how to receive your license and seals.  The system seems to be better explained this year and so far it has not crashed.  This is always a good day!

There are two types of draws open to be entered.  The main draw is open for all Saskatchewan residents for select species.  The different season by animal can be found here on the Saskatchewan Big Game supplement page.    The second draw that is open is the Canadian residents’ White-tailed deer draw for hunting in Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan draw is open for multiple species which include moose, mule deer, antlerless mule deer, and elk.  Each zone has a limited number of tags for each species and the success of the draw is broken down into four pools.  Each pool determines the probability of success to be drawn for each species.  For a step-by-step guide on how to apply for the  Saskatchewan Big Game Draw click here to be directed to the Government of Saskatchewan website.

The best pool to be in is “Super A Pool”, with the worst being the “Pool C”.  If you are drawn for any tags for a particular species you will then automatically be dropped into “Pool C” the following year.  I feel like a broken record but for complete details on how the draw system works click here.

The Saskatchewan Big Game is mostly designed for Saskatchewan residents other than the Canadian resident White-tailed deer hunter draw.  This is, just like the name says; open to all Canadian residents to enter for a chance to hunt the elusive white-tailed deer in Saskatchewan.  If you would like more information on how to enter into the Canadian White-tailed deer draw you can click here.  The link leads to the “apply now” button as well as all the rules and regulations on how to enter the draw.

I have already entered my name for the antlerless mule deer hunt in zone 4. I am still debating on if I should put in for the mule deer draw as well.  There are some big bucks in the area but they will be even larger next year!
